This cast-molded pressurized resin scale model of the Space Shuttle Atlantis measures 11 inches long with a wingspan of 4-1/2 inches. It comes in 1/200 scale, is rendered in fine detail, and includes a wooden base. All parts of the replica are rendered to the scale of its real-life counterpart, adding to its authenticity. Recommended for Ages 14+ The vertically launching Space Shuttle was NASA's partially reusable low Earth orbital spacecraft. It included the Orbiter Vehicle, a pair of recoverable solid rocket boosters (SRBs), and an expendable external tank containing liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. Space Shuttle Atlantis was notable for bringing supplies to the International Space Station, and for participating in mission STS-71, which marked the 100th U.S. manned space flight; the first U.S. shuttle-Russian Space Station Mir docking and joint on-orbit operations; and the first on-orbit changeout of shuttle crew. When linked, Atlantis and Mir together formed the largest spacecraft in orbit at the time. The Space Shuttle Atlantis launched its first flight in October 1985 and took its last flight in July 2011. It was the final flight of the Shuttle program. By the end of its last mission, Atlantis had orbited the Earth 4,848 times, traveling nearly 126,000,000 miles in space which is more than 525 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon.
