GeminiJets 1/200 scale United States Air Force (USAF) Lockheed C-130H Hercules diecast metal model is As Real as it Gets and measures approximately 5-7/8-inches long with an 8-inch wingspan. Manufactured as an officially licensed product by GeminiJets as a limited edition, highly collectible model, this United States Air Force (USAF) Lockheed C-130H Hercules - Registration 93-1561 - 145th Airlift Wing, 156th Airlift Squad - painted in its (Charlotte) North Carolina Air National Guard livery - Charlotte Douglas International Airport, NC - has been meticulously recreated from Lockheed's blueprints and features realistic landing gear and detailed printed graphics, assuring the utmost accuracy and superior quality. In addition, this aircraft model includes both an opening and closing Forward Door and Roll-On, Roll-Off Loading Ramp, which can be easily operated with the supplied tool. A Display Stand is included. After World War II, the U.S. Military required a modern-day troop and cargo transport aircraft to replace its aging mixed fleet of piston-engine aging aircraft. On August 23, 1954, the first C-130A "Hercules" took to the skies in what was heralded as the beginning of the most successful military turboprop transport to ever be conceived. The C-130 has been recognized alongside the venerable DC-3 as the world's most versatile aircraft, flying for more country's forces than any other aircraft. The Hercules is capable of hauling more than 36,000 lbs. of payload over distances exceeding 3,800 miles. Its short field performance is truly amazing with an ability to land and takeoff on unpaved, unprepared runway surfaces. As the years have progressed, Lockheed has made vast improvements to an already capable aircraft. As with most enhancements to aircraft, much emphasis has been placed on enhanced performance and more modern cockpit technology. Advanced weaponry has also become part of the C-130's duties. Today's modern C-130 "Gunship" is one of the most feared aircraft in the skies. The popularity of the C-130 is prevalent the world over and can be seen operating from the frozen Antarctic to the hottest deserts of Africa and the Middle East. The Hercules can haul troops, passengers, cargo, livestock, outsized freight, or anything else that will fit in its dimensions. The C-130 has been manufactured in various fuselage lengths and has also been used as a civilian airliner/freighter - designated the L-100. The latest military version, identified as the C-130J model, now features the most modern cockpit technology available. Improved engines and multi-blade propellor design have brought up to current standards. Having surpassed 60 years of production, the C-130J will carry the Hercules tradition well into the 21st century.
